Named for a popular grove of elm trees in the area of Harlem Ave. and Irving Park Rd., this small community bravely resisted becoming annexed by the City of Chicago in the late 19th Century. Its population of some 25,000 is housed in mostly modest single-family homes that average in price of $340,000. These are a mix of bungalows and four-squares that line the beautifully wooded streets. I love to inspect the fine homes in this town. The Milwaukee/METRA West rail line provides commuter transportation into the city. The children attend three elementary/middle schools in District #401 or Elmwood Park H.S.
